I think collection agencies are only doing their job. Yes they are fair, people should pay theier bills in the first place and then they won't end up in collections. I understand people have hard times but they should still pay for services they received

Collection agencies are doing a job; however, they need to be considerate of the person that has lost a job and trying to keep a roof over their heads while trying to figure out where their next meal is coming from. When you are struggling to survive, you don't need anyone saying "do you think you will have a job in two days". Because believe it or not, the market is tough and it is not always that simple. I always thought it was until I had the misfortune of not having a job. No one needs a person that is so inconsiderate of hardships harassing them when the person paid on time every month when they could! It is a job I would not take because I have more compassion for peoples feelings. Not everyone is trying to get over, but everyone is treated like it.
So sure everyone deserves to get paid, but it is not always possible to pay everyone.

Yes, those persons deserve to get paid. Other than that, the others are unfair. If any other bill goes to a collection agency, all you have to do is make an offer in writing, have it notorized and choose any day of the month to send i n a payment. If they refuse your offer, you are not obligated to pay anything at all! The statue of limitations is usually 7 yrs. on your credit report.

I don't think that collection agencies are unfair in theory, you are right people deserve to be paid. How would you feel if you got stiffed on a debt.
However, the methods and intimidation that some agencies use is inexcusable. There are laws that govern these agencies..........

i think these agencies should work out a payment plan to fit your income and give you a chance to pay before it goes on your credit record. once it's on your record for 7 years, what's the point in paying it? i also think they waste paper with their pushy letters. for every one of those letters i throw in the trash, i could probably have a rain forest in my back yard.
