They are all great but they eventually blur together.

I do remember reading one with a somewhat shocking ending (for it's time). It must have made an impression because I remember it's name and the author's name from many books and years ago.

Hot Rod - Henry Gregor Felsen.

I don't really think it's great but it was a good snapshot of it's time.

Among many great books, one that stands out is "The Aunt's Story" by the late author Patrick White. A terrific, rather strange book. I last read this in about 1982 and can still feel its impact. Among other books he wrote were "Voss" and "The Solid Mandala", which I also enjoyed. His writings skim beneath the surface of life and I hope you'll check them out. I must also mention "Mistress Masham's Repose', by E.B. White. I read this at age 12 or so and never forgot it. Though it ranks up there with Lewis Carroll's "Through the Looking Glass" I don't believe that either of these last two are the exclusive property of children.

That's a tough one. It is hard to pinpoint the greatest book I've ever read.
But some of my favorites are Jane Austen's novels, I like Jules Verne, Jonathan Swift(just to mentin a few of my fave authors).
To tell you the truth though, and you may disagree because people say this book is only for kids and teens, but the Harry Potter series I find to be masterpieces. If you haven't read them, give them a chance(I was very sceptical at first, because I used to be determined to object to anything I cosidered overrated).
So, I guess Harry Potter would my modern book of choice for the greatest book I've ever read.
I find great books to be the ones that have an aspect that is uniqe(of course they can use old elements), that are captivating, and that get you excited when you find out there is a movie.

Tough Question:

In my youth I read all the time and would say Lion The With & The Wardrobe is my classic favorite, but in my teenage years i read a trashy little book called PS I love you about 20 times.

Most recently the book that had me laughing out loud was a Metro Girl - one of those easy read spy novels

All are good but no works of great literature

I love Shakespeare so if you want a recomendation for a classic well written piece of work pick up a collection a Shakespear's work and enjoy his timeless classics - errie how well they speak the truth even now a days

Victor Hugo's "Les Miserables" is one of the greatest and influential book ever written and was the inspiration for another great work"Noli me Tangere" by Jose P. Rizal and was also the book that Che Guevarra brought with him in the mountains of Bolivia. Written when Victor was in his early seventies, "Les Miserables" was his only major work as the other short novel-"Hunchback of Notre Dame" pales by comparison. A broadway musical based on Hugo's masterpiece became the longest running broadway show ever and was produced world wide by so many theatre groups.

Count of Montecristo by Alexander Dumas. Its about a young French sailor who was unjustly imprisoned for 14 years before he escapes and ultimately takes revenge on his enemies. The author did a great job describing the emotions of the prisoner.Disbelief, denial, self pity, madness, apathy and finally hope.I read other books by the same author but none of them including the famous 'Three Muskateers' come close to it.

that is a really tough question. i like several genres, so i couldnt really pick just one book, but perhaps one book per genre.

i like almost every book by john grisham

mystery or detective genre - i like sue grafton, and just recently discovered mary higgins clark. she is very good as well. ellery queen is good.

fantasy genre - "dragonlance chronicles", and "prophet of the rose" trilogies by margret weiss and tracy hickman. the deed of paksennarion, by elizabeth moon (a trilogy also) is one of the best fantasy trilogies out there (imho, of course).

i love historical fiction - too many topics and authors to mention. ken follett is merely one that i do like.

christian fiction - the left behind series was phenominal! check it out.

and of course the classics - everything from homer to robert louis stevenson to orwell.
