Well, about the best you can do is to just love them as your parents.
It took me years of arguing with my folks about their politics and beliefs.
It finally dawned on me that they were a by-product of their generation.
Most of the people in their age group pretty much believed the same way.
So, taken in that context, I understood why they did and said what they did.
What am I saying?
Open your mind to some new possibilities.
Be the adult in the family, take the high road.
Show them respect for their opinions.
Make sure you have all the facts when you engage in discussion (or, argument).
Don't lose your temper and always end it with a joke.
If you don't do any of those, you become the same as them.
Remember - the mind is like a parachute, it only works when its open.

I find it so interesting that every self-proclaimed "liberal" is incredibly close minded. If you suggest another point of view, they react with hostility.
As a Ronald Reagan conservative, I am thrilled to read different points of view. It keeps my perspective in balance, and gives me new ideas to ponder.
Winston Churchill said: "If at 20 you're not a liberal, you don't have a heart. And if at 40 you're not a conservative, you don't have a brain".
Don't worry a bit about your parents. They're doing just fine.

Open-mindedness and intelligence does not necessarily depend on political affiliations! Closed-mindedness is a good thing--it shows that people are sure of what they believe in and strong believers in themselves. Not all republicans are closed-minded or stupid, just strong in their beliefs!

My father was a Democrat and was very racist. Both parties can be narrow-minded and dumb. You seem to be taking all issues you have with your parents and covering them with a blanket labeled Republican.

Didn't used to listen to me either. But now....he's pist at Bush and double pist at Cheney.
He ain't there yet, but he's a whole LOT more open minded.

Try starting by sitting down and getting them to explain it to you while you keep an open mind.

Most people that are older and responsible like your parents are Republican. Democrats are usually younger people or are older people who have failed in life or are in academia.
When you get older chances are you'll be a Republican too.

You should let your parents decide who they want. Politics is based on personal opinion, and quite frankly that is what makes elections work.
And by the way
