yes you have the right idea.. the country is owned and run by white men.. they like to hide from things that make them uncomfortable.. we dont even have a holiday for the native americans.. but we have one for irish folks.. think about it.. we rounded up and caged japanese people when pearl harbor was attacked... it is because the capitalists want to assimilate us to all be as european as possible.. they show black people a lot now because of the NAACP

Much of your perception is a matter of awareness. There may be more arabs than you are aware of. The actor, Tony Shaloub, who plays Monk, is Lebanese. (interesting you mentioned Arabs as underrepresented with the situation in the Middle East being so front and center in the news) Same with Jewish people being so prevelant in the entertainment industry.
Your perception probably stems from the fact the people are often in the media WITHOUT their race being relevant to why they are featured. There certainly ARE races and cultures that don't receive much attention. You mention American Indians. There are several others, such as Eskimo and Aleut cultures. How about minorities in other countries, such as the Ainu of Japan?

Native American Indian- I am a Native American Indian, and dating back to as long as my ancestors no one has cared to represent us, rather bury us and hide us from the world. When I say Indian, I mean all of them, you know the first ones here on North America. Yup first ones here and know where at the back of the class.

I think its Asians because they are not as extroverted as other races. I am not trying to be stereotypical or anything, but Asians tend to be more "private" people that public. That's why you only see a handful of Asians on TV or films. And, it is not because of racial barriers in the media. Nowadays, people of all backgrounds can be famous if they choose that lifestyle.

Native Americans. Unless some big celebrity donated money to us, visited us or one of us makes the most wanted list, we don't usually make more than local media. Case in point, the kid who shot students at redlake.

There are a lot of visible minorities that are underrepresented in places of prominence in society. I can do one group an injustice but only picking one.
On a sillier note:
Aliens. Who has seen an alien doing the 6 o'clock news? Just because their from another planet doesn't mean they aren't important.

From what i see. Indians and Arabs. No good roles for this ethnicity unless is to label them as psycho terrorists. Selected Hispanic groups, which are ALL different with DIFFERENT cultures are all labeled as Mexicans.

sure it does. How can you expect to find people who are in minority in media?
Jewish: you cant differentiate because they are also caucasian
Arab: less and conservative, especially women
Asian: less and inclined towards other fields like medicine and engineering
I think aboriginals are the least because they are fewer
