Birth control methods are still largely unknown, and the only one commonly in use in a condom -- not the most effective. So yes, there are more than 8000 babies born in a day, most likely. Consider that Africa is a **very** large continent, containing many countries. If there are 54 countries on that continent, with a population of 126 million in Nigeria to 256,000 in the Western Sahara -- think of just how many people there are living there!

But, there is a discrepancy to the claims of malaria deaths. Some of them are unconfirmed, and many times any fever is termed "malaria" and treated as such. It is only when that treatment doesn't work, that a doctor (or more often, dispensary) is willing to test for other illnesses. This is because malaria is such a *very* prevalent disease in that part of the world. Some of those deaths -- including one in my experience -- are diagnosed as death from malaria without the trouble of testing.

Well Africa does have an over-population problem, not to mention that many parents die from the AIDS outbreak every day, causing children to become orphans when they had both parents in some cases simply months ago. It's a very sad situation that they're in but the possibility of 8,000 kids being born in Africa every day does seem too much for the possibility. It's population is definitly falling at an alarming rate because of a lack of food, the AIDS/HIV outbreak and militant groups in politically unstable countries. These 3 factors make Africa a living nightmare for many children who simply want the basics of life. But better technology and fighting these rebel groups can lead to a restoration of some peace since it wous stop the violence the deaths a lot. But the aid is pouring into the countries in massive amounts, I've even heard by the hundreds of million per day. It's just that it's a MASSIVE place with too many people to locate. There's vilages and places many people who don't live in Africa don't know about and can't get medical and rations help to them. It's a bad situation and I pray it gets better sometime soon because of the grim look of Africa's future.

No need for apologies... I heard about this problem when I was 10 years old, back in '61. Myself and my 5 brothers and sisters collected 200 dollars and sent it to Washington D.C. A lot of good that did!! Like I said in an answer I gave to a similar question, BIRTH CONTROL PILLS is what we should be sending to them.

3,000,000 a year does sound high for malaria. if you factor in other diseases and starvation and accidents there would be no children and the population should be declining. however, little or no birth control might mean more babies are born than anywhere else.

Yup, it is true. More than that are born in the USA each day (upwards of 10,000). Africa has a much higher population than the USA.
