Is the ipod empty right now? If so, try to uninstall itunes and then install it again! My ipod has been giving me problems too. But mine has been freezing before I even hook it up to the computer. Make sure you have everything up to date! And try to reset your ipod. Or maybe your computer doesn't have enough space to work with the ipod.

Here are some reasons why it might not be working:

1.Your computer is just slow or old and wasnt ment to deal with iPods.
2. You havent installed iTunes yet.

What I would do if I was you is, I would reread the manual, even if you have allready read it. I would also download iTunes if you havent by going on apple.com. On apple.com you might also find some trouble shooting guides to help you out.

Hope I helped and Good Luck!

Have you installed the software of the accompanying CD with your IPOD? It usually has an ITunes installer with it. After installation you can see your IPOD communicating with your PC. Install ITunes or you can download it freely on the internet. Go to and try this link: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

I hope this helps.

do a full reset... switch the HOLD button on and then off... then hold the MENU button and the centre button untill the apple logo appears... ( about 5-10 secs) then try it again......
