Stripping or sweeping the membranes might help if you are really close to naturally going in to labor. I had it done with both of my pregnancies and it didn't seem to work. The doc did it both times several days before I was due. With the second baby I had bloody show before I went to the doc's office that morning. While I was there he swept the membranes again and I did go in to labor that late after noon (and had the baby at midnight), but I think labor would have happened if he had done it or not. Unless you are really close to the two weeks past the due date mark (like a day or three away) I would stay away from stripping/sweeping. It can end up causing an infection and is sort of painful, too. When the baby is ready your body will know when to start the show;-)

i had my membranes scraped so that my husband could be hear for my daughters delivery. he was in Iraq and was coming home for his 2 week R&R. Unfortunitly it worked so well that my husband walked into the hospital straight from the air port exactly 12 hours after our daughter was born. Having your membranes scrapped hurts, they say it hurts a little, it hurt me a lot, but it depends on the person. It did cause an infection and i had a feaver when i went into delivery and they talked of an evergency cesarion, cause it caused the babys BP to drop. They gave me antibiotice though my IV to get rid of the infection. I did have a regular delivory however and everything was fine with the baby. I wouldnt recamend having your membranes scrapped unless it was for a medical reason or you had a situation like mine.

I have mixed reviews on this. It does help labor to start faster, but the people I know who've had it done also ended up with an infection that caused a fever during delivery. I also feel that people should allow labor to progress naturally unless you're super overdue. Babies come when they need to. If you want to speed up the process, try walking. Long walks. Like a mile or two for a few days. That'll help start labor. Sex never fails LOL Just my opinion. Good luck.

You mean stripped? I had my membranes stripped and it didn't really help, I was induced a couple of days later.

Did you mean 'scraped'? Which membranes are you talking about?
