Gunslinger Girl -
Officially, the Social Welfare Agency is a government sponsored corporation that's in the business of saving lives. At least, that's the ruse. In reality, it's an agency on the fringe of technology. They give terminal patients another shot at life using cybernetic implants. This conditioning process then shapes the patient into an efficient machine for handling all of the government's dirty work.

(Saw it at Otakon 2005, loved it so much bought the whole series.)

Kare Kano is by the same studio as FLCL and Evangelion, but I doubt that would appeal to your particular taste.

Have you seen Candidate for Goddess?
Not much I can help with that one, but it is good.

Let's see I also think you would like Full Metal Panic, You might like
Yukikaze
Unbeknownst to the general population, 33 years ago, an alien force opened an inter-dimensional gate in Antarctica to invade the Earth. The unified forces of Earth formed a military unit under command of The United Nations to combat the aliens. Using the latest aeronautical technology, they were able to push the aliens back through the portal to the planet they call "Fairy". But the war still rages on. Rei Fukai, a pilot in the elite Special Air Force (SAF) unit, flies the Yukikaze, an advanced fighter with an almost sentient computer control system.

Not really my thing, but you might like it.

Everyone tends to like
Fruits Basket, and can never explain why, but it's a good solid show.

Tohru Honda is a cheerful 16 year old girl. She was orphaned when her mother was killed in a car accident. Not wanting to burden anyone, she buys a tent and begins to live in a forest. She is determined to finish school in order to fulfill her mother's last wish. But, it turns out that the land Tohru is living on belongs to the Sohma family. She is quickly invited to live in the Sohma house (all males), as long as she is willing to cook and clean. One of the Sohma's, Yuki, is the most popular boy at Tohru's high school. He is swooned by girls constantly and is even referred to as the "prince" of the school. His cousins Shigure and Kyo make up the rest of the household.

Tohru knows that her living environment is out of the normal, but things turn out to get stranger. The members of the Sohma family are possessed by animals and they turn into their true selves when they are embraced by the opposite sex! You can imagine Tohru's surprise when she witnesses their secret. She promises not to tell a soul, but the "cat" may already be out of the bag.

Blue Seed-
Momiji Fujimiya, is just an ordinary fifteen year old girl living in Izumo, so she thought. Her twin sister Kaede, supposed died putting the aragami to sleep. The aragami awoke and all of them are after the Kushinada princess to kill her so they would not have to be put to sleep for thousands of years by her sacrificing herself. With the help of her guardian and protector, Mamoru Kusanagi, and the TAC, Momiji can fight off the aragami and save Japan.

One of the first animes I watched that wasn't dubbed. It's good though and does come in English. I bought the DVDs when I got the chance.

Haunted Junction-

Saito High is a school haunted by many spirits. Some of them are friendly, some are wacky, and some are just pure evil. There are a so many ghosts, in fact, that the student councils main duty is keep the spirits from causing trouble. Unfortunately the Council President, Haruto Hojo, just wants to live a normal school life, in which he can actually attend his classes.

The other two members of the Holy Student Council are Kazumi Karuo, whom is constantly being possessed by spirits and has a thing for a attractive young ghost who haunts one of the school bathrooms, and Mutsuki Asahina, a shinto priestess with fierce exorcising powers and a disturbing love for boys under twelve. Did we mention these three are supposed to tame the spirits?

Elfen Lied. It's as gory as Gantz(if not more), weird plot, and annoyingly cute cat-girl looking things.
