The truth is that any animal can be trained. There are a few simple rules to follow.
1. be patient
2. be consistent
3. be kind.
with these three rules in hand and a little protection such as a leather glove. you will be able to teach your hamster not to bite.
****A few notes about hamsters. they are not social animals naturally. Only though domestication have they learned to be more social. in the wild they are solitary animals coming together for mating and sharing of food and water resources. A good book to help you in training your hamster is "Don't Shoot The Dog" by Karen Pryor. This is a great book on the basics of behavior modification.

Ok, this might sound weird, but it works..
Before you shower take a dry towel and rub it all over yourself, and then at night cover his cage with it. You should do this every night for about a week or so. The reason for this is so that he will get used to your smell and recognize you. Then you want to open his cage and gentle put your hand inside, but don't try to grab him, after a few days he should come to you. Then you can slowly start touching him and eventually you can pick him up without him biting you. I did all of this and ended up with a hampster that would ride around in my shirt pocket.

Let it get used to being handled and smack it in the nose if it bites, not to hard tho. Handle it everyday for 5 minutes. Pretty soon after about a week or so it will quit biting.
Good luck

Hamsters bite instinctively. They cannot be trained not to bite.

next time you go to touch him, put lemon juice on your fingers so when he bites it, he gets a sour taste....hopefully he does not enjoy it
