I'm torn between George Washington and Franklin Roosevelt. Even though they were both aligned with parties, they would fearlessly make policy for the good of the country without worrying about the party line. OK, if I have to pick, I'll take FDR.

My favorite thing about Washington--that he preached against the two party system and party loyalty, and was truly committed to making a democratic nation that would work. (He could have got himself elected first King of America if he wanted to.)

Favorite thing about FDR--although he believed in capitalism, he was not so dogmatically wedded to the concept to allow it to hinder him. When capitalism was failing, he introduced a few socialist concepts, while leaving the capitalist framework in place. The result was a revitalized and eventually stronger capitalist economy that no longer preyed upon the weakest in society without mercy--he made it so that people could get out of poverty without destroying the competitive capitalist structure that had led and would continue to lead to the building of the nation's industrial might.

He was a dictator andothers have followed him including the Bushs'. He was the absolute worst in history . To answer:
