It's not a conscious thing. You let out air and some small amount of tension when you hit the ball, so you grunt and moan. It just sort of slips out.

Tell me about it! I find it most peculiar! The ladies are the worst. I would not be surprised if some guys get off on the grunts and groans they make lol.

Granted that they push themselves so hard and the grunts & groans are a way to help them go that bit further but come on! I do admit tennis would be less fun without the sounds. Would be rather dull actually.

They are attention seekers, and they also like to do it to put off their opponent. This is a more recent phenomenon, tennis players didn't do it nearly as much a few years ago. My mother blames Monica Seles for starting the trend.

I won't be looking forward to it either, not just for the grunting but for Andy Murray's ugly face and horrible pushy mother.

cos they obviously have a gastric problem where they pump every time they put effort into something so they disguise the anal burp by grunting or moaning
