I hope not if I ever make one mad. I'm sorry I can't help you but wouldn't it be a good idea to assume they can? Maybe the one that you meet is an acception. I've always heard that water moccasons don't bite in water. I saw one eating my fish on a stringer one day. He had to bite under water in order to eat them.
I would always assume on the side of safety.

I dont think so their body stature is all wrong for tree climbing...they do burrow though.
