No question that Robinho is a fine player but he will have his day if he continues to play as he is. Ronaldo is an older, more seasoned and consistent individual and team player. He has - because he has earned - a more commanding presence on the field that has a very positive effect on the entire team. Put him and Ronaldinho together and you have magic. Watch the fans - Ronaldo has earned their respect and loyalty. Yes endorsements can spoil an athlete but from what I've seen Ronaldo doesn't seem concerned about what shoes he's wearing - only that his laces are tied. Look for Robinho to follow up in the years to come. Not besmearching his talent but Ronaldo is getting up there. In the meantime Robinho couldn't have a better mentor.

Though Robinho seems to be playing well and Ronaldo just walks around the pitch like he is on a construction site, Ronaldo takes three defenders to stop him and if you give him half a chance he scores. I you can count the number of times Robinho has aimed at goal and not troubled the goal keeper it would be probably more than the number of times Ronaldo has touched the ball throughout the game. Now almost at every interval Ronaldo shoots at goal the harsh reality of a beast that we have all come accustomed to shows to still exist within him.

The problem with that is Nike has made him too rich and also that they make more money from him in the news than on the bench so you can also imagine how difficult it would be to tell him he is not playing when Brazil makes billions from the Nike sponsorship which is tightly intertwined with Ronaldo.

What would you do? Sit him down and piss the Nike guys or put him in and get “performance” bonus? Soccer is about money these days so the answer is obvious!
