Probably the best pain reliever available (though prescription) is Morphine. It is the most closely chemically related to your body's own endorphins and can even be used during pregnancy. Morphine is used for end-stage diseases by Hospice and has no limit to dosage. Morphine for chronically ill patients can be given in any dose until the pain is controlled, no matter how much.

For headaches, toothaches, etc., I'd say IBUPROFIN or ADVIL. If the pain is severe enough, you may want to see a doctor, and he can prescribe something stronger such as VICODIN. Vicodin is a narcotic though, and can be addictive, so try using over the counter pain relievers first.

Bayer Aspirin has been the most positive assistant to me, especially when I haven't felt well. It is a natural blood thinner. Always be careful to eat something BEFORE you take anybody's aspirin. Otherwise, it will cause internal bleeding. Forget about me, see a doctor and get that much needed expertise. Some people are allergic to aspirin. Otherwise, I would personally stick with the aspirin. Remember this, "If God be for us, who can be against us?" - Romans 8:31. Peace and God Bless.

Believe it or not - ice! Safe for everyone.
I think I should have said "cold." Frozen veggies in the bag -(peas,corn) of course - works just fine as an ice pack. Very flexible/will mold to the painful area. Just remember to keep refreezing.
