Like Penpallermel, I worked in the dining hall for $4.20/hr. It meant free meals too.
I was also a security guard for a while. I had a lousy drive, but the job was good for a student...lots of time to study. I got a 4.0 gpa that year.
Working in college is good for you, up to a point. If you don't have time to study, or even enjoy college, it's not good.
I paid for most of school w/ loans too.

I worked a myriad of jobs. I was a mover, a gardener, a decorator, and a phone-surveyor. None of them paid more than 7 an hour. The key to surviving in college and enjoying yourself is to find a killer summer job and work your guts out at it. I drove a wonder bread truck and made about 15K each summer and then lived off that for the rest of the year, and ya, I did pay for school myself. No loans. There was definitely no glamor, but I have no debt. Everyone is poor in college and that's half the fun. Don't be afraid to get up early and stay up late.

I worked at Disneyland. The pay wasn't great, but the perks were. I lived at home and my parents paid for college, so the pay didn't matter too much. I worked in Fantasyland as a ride operator and had a TON of fun. It was the best time of my life.

When I was a freshman, I worked in the dining hall and I made minimum wage back then ($5.15 an hour). I eventually got moved up to I think $5.45/hr after working over 200 hours. Then in my sophomore year I worked at the library and pay was that rate until mimimum wage went up to $6.00 (I think) and then up again this year to $6.75/hr.
I paid for school through loans.

Work-study in the library. Started @ 7.75/hr and ended with 8.50/hr (I think). Best job in the world. Capped @ 12 hrs a week, and the library had tons of hours to choose from.
