Departments store and boutiques have "buyers" who visit clothing markets (usually Dallas, NY, London, etc) and buy things for the store. Items are selected according to current trends, regional preferences, etc. Items are selected off-season - months before they actually hit the stores. Department stores and chains buy large quantities in multiple sizes. Smaller boutiques and upper-scale stores buy a smaller selection, as their clientele prefers not be seen in something that someone else has bought!!!!!!!!

If you are trying to sell a line of products, I recommend that you take your things to small personally owned boutiques. You will have an easier time getting their attention.

you have to have a contract with stores to sell to them.

any average joe cant just go into macy's and sell some stuff.
