this older man at work acts like I can't do anything right, he always tells me that I look nice that day, or that I have a beautiful phone voice, but then every time I do something worth while or finish a big project and people tell me I have done well on it he will always come back with a remark like "but she didn't fill up printer A as soon as it was out of paper, I had to go and load it" I am sorry but we have several printers and none of them ran out but his, it is not my job to fill up the printers, only the copy machines, how can I improve so he will stop finding problems with everything I do, how can I convence him I am not an air head.

no he is not my boss

I know my spelling sucks

Ignore him.
He's probably jealous because you are beautiful, dress well, and are obviously competant at what you do.
Okay, maybe "jealous" is the wrong word.
But still, if I was you I wouldn't worry about it because judging from your question, plenty of other people recognise your worth. And as for the the whole printer thing, let him sort out his own printer, if its not your job, its not your job, and he must just get over it.
Evidently this man seems to have issues, and it's not up to you to sort him out.
You're great at what you do, and just keep telling yourself this, don't let one person bring you down.

You know what his problem is... you're a pretty girl who's doing a great job and he want's you to be an air head because to him a pretty girl can't have a brain. Best thing to do... take everything he says in stride and keep going... Keep doing your job and do it well... do the best you can in all things and he'll just look like an idiot to anyone who knows that you are doing your job well. If he takes it farther than bring it to you boss... Make sure your boss knows what's going on and ask him/her what they want you to do. Make sure you know if any of his complaints are legit or not.

He sounds like a bitter old man who just needs to get over himself. So just do your best and let him be annoyed If he can't handle that your good at your job that's all on him.

I think you should confront him on the issue. Let him know that you don't like the fact that he is nice to you when it's convenient and then treats you like crap to make him look better. If you tell him in a very stern way, I think he'll get it and lay off.

Don`t concern yourself with it, trust me, management can spot when someone is deflecting attention away from their own inadequacies by finding fault with the work of their peers. He is not kidding anyone. Keep up the good work.

this guy is threatened by your performance and potential in the business. there isn't anything you can do to convince this guy that your well qualified for the position. you just have to deal with ignorant people in the work place. don't let this guy make you resentful of defensive-not worth it

Sounds like this guy is trying to be nice to you, so that he can look good and try to keep his job, and also trying to minimize your achievements, so that he can look good and try to keep his job.

So, doing things "perfectly" isn't going to help you, because his self-consciousness will always make him try to "one-up" you.

ps. like the other guys said...use spell check and you won't look like an air-head.

You know your spelling sucks but you don't use spell check and you wonder why he thinks you're an air head?

Hmmm.
