a rectangle, by definition is a quadrilateral where all four angles are right-angles, and an oblong is that which is right angled but not equilateral. I know its a bit obscure, but really, an oblong is an old fashioned term for a rectangle, without equilateral sides, if that's possible?!
hope it helps

Assuming that you meant the strict definition of "oblong", which is "deviating from a given form by elongation in one dimension", then you are comparing two different terms. A rectangle is a shape, and oblong describes a property of any shape. A rectangle may be considered to be an "oblong square". (It is like asking what is the difference between "apple" and "juicy".)
If instead by "oblong" you mean "ellipse", which is what most people think about when they hear the word (probably because it connotes to the word "oval"), then the simple answer is that they are two different shapes.

Both the oblong and rectangle are the same.
When I was a kid in Primary school, they used to use the word "oblong" and I only learn of the term "rectangle" when I went on to Secondary education.

What are these people on about? AN ELONGATED CIRCLE IS CALLED AN ELLIPSE!
Sorry about that. An oblong is essentially and old word meaning rectangle, they are different words, but mean the same think. A bit like an ellipse being an oval,
