I recently went to Sydney, where everything I bought was rounded down or up to the nearest nickel. This was MUCH easier.

I recently read also that we are running out of copper and zinc reserves. [Most of the current penny is zinc.]

Can you name anything at all you can still get for only one penny? Yes, I know there are slot machines that take them, but you don't always get anything for your penny! :o)

If you put a penny in a tire the top of lincoln's head is how far your tires should come down or else they're getting worn out like pennies.

There used to be coins smaller than pennies, may still be in some cultures "widow's mite" is one.

Why get rid of them?

First the pennies would be gotten rid of rounding up or down to a nickel.

Next the nickels would be gotten rid of rounding everything to the next dime!

I don't think I want to go that route!!!

The only thing good about the penny is that when you get 5 of them, you have the equivalent of a nickel.

We still have pennies because we would be paying a lot more in taxes if it was rounded to the nearest nickel.

One reason is that it would take an Act of Congress to get rid of them from our currency. Since that means Illinois would also have to vote for it, it'll never happen.

Remember who's on the penny? And where was Lincoln born?

Now, if we put him on another coin, we might actually get this thing passed as law =)

For those who don't believe me, remember that Illinois is the only state left where all toll booths and most vending machines still take the things...

Scary...
