I rarely run across another person here, democrat or republican, that is aware that the Taliban offerred to hand over B.Laden BEFORE Bush invaded Afg.

The actual facts were that they made this offer with the stipulation that he be handed over to a nuetral country. They were concerned he would not be given a fair trial based on how upset we were with it being right after 911.

Bush said no then commenced to invade Afg. and as we all know, later Iraq.

Who else also knew this?

I will try to look up a source on this one. I don't state facts that aren't accurate. This was not referring to Clinton btw. This was right after 911 and was all over PBS news... ie, Jim Lehrer Newshour. I always found it odd how fast this story disappeared.

Wow I was right.

Not one person knew this. Funny how ppl DO know about the Clinton offer but not the one made to Bush just before we went into Afg.

UPDATE: since so many ppl have ask for a source, I have contacted PBS's Newshour (emailed) and am waiting on the date of their actual broadcast of this story. I will get a transcript or some other verification of this. Knowing the real facts is the greatest thing in the search for truth.

Ok got part of the sources:

Sept 18, 2001 PBS's Newshour
Julian Manyon of International Television News reports on the pursuit of Osama bin Laden in Pakistan quote "...The conditions ..., are first that he should be handed over for trial in a neutral country-- not the United States-- and second, that the Taliban regime should receive international recognition."

Sept 19, 2001 Margaret Warner, a Newshour correspondent, quote, "Today the Taliban suggested that it would like to talk to the United States about surrendering Osama bin Laden. The White House response was: Forget about talking -- turn him over or else"

There's more I know but those are two that I found online from PBS.org as quickly as I could.

There were a number of occasions when Bin Laden could have been captured, and it all seems so easy in hind sight. Clinton was not trying to let him go when he refused the assistance of Sudan, nor would Bush have been evil if Afghanistan did in fact offer help.

I also knew that they offered Bin Laden to Clinton way before 911. The Clinton Admin. had a problem with the legality of it. As much blame as Bin Laden has he is not alone. The recent death of AlQueda's number one man in Iraq did not mean the end to Al Queda in Iraq. Accepting BinLaden and not dealing with Afghanistan would have left us in greater danger.

Yes, the leader of Afghanistan's ruling Taliban militia agreed to extradite Osama bin Laden to SAUDI ARABIA in '98 but rescinded the offer following U.S. strikes on Afghanistan that year according to a former head of Saudi intelligence.

Some stil believe that it was the Sudanese government and that he was offered to Clinton.

However, this was proven to be false by the BIPARTISAN 9/11 Commission. This was propaganda by Limbaugh and Hannity.

Nice try. It was the government of Sudan who offered Bin Laden up to the Clinton administration. He musta been too busy with Monica.

Your information is only 25% accurate.

The Sudan Govt offered to turn OBL over to Clinton's administration in '97ish, they turned down the offer.

This offer was made after the USS Cole & Embassy bombings - why not try checking your facts? (assuming you know what FACTS are)
