My boyfriend wants me to get my bellybutton pierced, but I think it is trashy and too common?

if your boyfriend wants you to get one and you don't, then don't get one. It's your body and your the one that's going to have to live with this for the rest of your life. In my opinion, it depends entirely on the woman. I agree that yes, on some occasions it can be trashy and common. Other cases, it won't be. You need to realize that your going to be living with this choice for a very long time. Do you want to have a bellybutton when you are 58 years old? Will you still want a bellybutton when your being interviewed or when you are in church? If the answer is yes to these questions and you want one, get one but make sure you get it in a healthy environment. One of my best friends got hers pierced when she was 13 and she loves it. I think it really depends on your personality and your looks whether it's trashy or not. But please don't get your bellybutton pierced just because your boyfriend wants you to.

i thin once u have made it in life then u can think about those things (not saying that you havent) some people judge others on looks and things like that... when another guy sees a belly button ring he's probably gonna think okay ur a freak.. i can get u in bed easily.. but once u know that no guy can walk over u and u have ur head on you soldiers then hey.. what the hecks... its also how u wear the peircing. u can make it look trashy and u can make it look sophisticated.. just now that a long with the peircing comes a lot of judgemental ppl

I dont think they are trashy at all. I am out of college and working and I have one to me they are just another way of expressing yourself.

But if you are going to get it pierced I would only do it if it is something you want to do.
Not because someone else wants you to do it.

Yes they are. Don't do something to your body because someone else wants you to. Do it for YOU. Boyfriends come and go. What if you get pierced and your next boyfriend doesn't like piercings? The point is this: Do what YOU feel is the right thing for you.

Yes. Trashy and common. I think it is the Hindu who believe it is the center of the soul and that if pierced, the soul leaks out or becomes contaminated.

It's not your boyfriend's decision to make. You and you alone have the say in this (unless you are under 18). So no one else's opinion should matter in this but yours. If you think it's trashy then stick to your decision and do as you feel best.

It's your body, not his. He can get whatever he wants pierced, but, you don't have to if you don't want to. I think you should do what you want. You don't know how long you'll be together, anyway, so why make a lifelong mark on your body. I don't think belly button piercings are too bad, but if you don't want to get it, dont!

Well, yeah they are common cause everyone has them. But they're not trashy. It just another form of expression, so who are you to call it trashy? If you don't want it, then don't get it. It's YOUR body.

well if you think that's true, don't let a boyfriend push you into anything. I have mine done, but not because anyone told me too. I think some of the rings they have out there are ridiculous, but I have a simple diamond and silver barbell, and I think it looks nice. I would never have the hanging ones or the corkscrew ones because I'm too much of a klutz and would end up getting it snagged!

If you think it is trashy or dont like them then DO NOT get one. You could get an infection not to mention the pain. Only do stuff like that if YOU want to do it... not for anyone else.
