Wow....that's a big question.

There are many unresolved mysteries which center around individuals, such as "Who was Jack the Ripper?", "What happened to Amelia Earhart?", or may favorite (although little-known) "The Strange Death of Netta Fornario". (See http://www.mysteriouspeople.com/Occult_mystery.htm In fact, the whole website www.mysteriouspeople.com is pretty darned interesting.

Personally, I'm more drawn to the "Lost Civilization" mysteries, and recent discoveries in the Amazon basin appear to indicate that there were civilizations in the Americas of which we have almost no knowledge. (http://rainforests.mongabay.com/external/amazon_cities_before_columbus.html or http://www.sploid.com/news/2006/06/tropical_stoneh.php)

Of course, lost treasures are interesting as well. The Beal cryptograms are a good example, as is Oak Island (http://www.unmuseum.org/beal.htm), and another of my personal favorites would have to be the Voynich manuscript. (http://www.voynich.nu/s_intro.html)

People always love a mystery, and human history leaves us plenty to investigate.

Jack the Ripper...was he the deranged prince, or some surgeon gone mad. Whoever he was, he had something against prostitutes.
