I raised an iguana from a baby 'til it was over 3ft long. I loved my iggy. You'll need a heat rock or light to help it digest and be happy. Keep the cage where it can get sunlight also if possible. Definately start with a baby iguana and hold it alot so it will be used to you. I had a couple of older iguanas after my first and they were mean. Tried to whip me with their tails and threatened to bite alot.(those are really the worst things an iguana can do) Always wash your hands after handleing him or cleaning his cage because most reptiles can carry salmonilla. Iguanas are usually the cheapest reptiles to buy and maintain. The small ones usually cost 9-20 dollars and eat fresh fruits and veggies, and mine ate canned catfood and spaghetti too. Have fun with your new friend. I'd still have mine, but my Dad locked him in a bathroom with the dog while he was supposed to be watching him when I was out of town, and the dog played with him, to death. (many years ago)

NOBODY listen to piraterachel
Iguanas are very expensive to maintain and never ever use a heatrock for any reptile. Also never ever put the iguana cage infront of a window or outside because glass traps heat and it will cook the iguana. Read this site

If you dont have the time play with and handle an iguana EVERY DAY then dont get one. They get very big and can be extremely aggressive. Trust me, that tail hurts when it whips you. Think instead of maybe a bearded dragon. They are very docile and friendly and can do all an iguana can do.

A baby iguanas cost about 35.00 on average you need a glass tank for it which cost like 70.00 dollars new. or even more. green for it to eat which cost like 5.00 a week flourescent lighting, heat bulbs. water bowls, foodbowls, calcium, etc unless your willing to spend alot of time and care with the iguana don,t bother! They need alot of attention and time. Go on internet and look for all the stuff you need for iguana. You need at least 200.00 dollars to get started.goodluck and treat the iguana good.

my parents have a 6ft iguana. She eats fruit/veggies which can be costly. Your electricity bill can get kinda high also. They can also be very aggresive depending on how they are treated. You also need to buy calcium powder which is about 5 bucks. I have a gecko they still need the heat and calcium, but geckos eat crickets and there about 12 cents. there nice starter lizards.
