Security, contentment, commitment, uniqueness, happiness, to be cared for, to raise children in an optimal atmosphere, to feel larger than the sum of the parts. (Not to mention, less risk of unwanted pregnancies, STDs and AIDS. Or of feeling used or hurt.)
In studies, married people were much more likely to live longer and be healthier. (Unless they were in an unhealthy marriage but the study found those were less reported.)
Sometimes people get married and then give up like it's a free ride and the hard work is over. Actually the work, the journey... and the fun is just beginning.
I could go on and on, but I'm finding it difficult to describe with words what it's like. All I know is, not growing up or old by myself, and having someone there at the end of the day who can't wait for me to get home, who says and means he'll be there twenty years from now, knowing there's no where else you'd rather go or rather be with, is a very happy and peaceful feeling.
Reasons you probably shouldn't marry: for money, to spite your family, for a visa, because you'd rather be married than be alone, because you think it'll fix all of your problems, only because of passion and the physical benefits, just because you're allowed to; or just because well, you can divorce if it doesn't work out. (If you're already thinking like this, perhaps you should reconsider getting married.)
Also, if something like divorce ever did happen you have more rights when it comes to dispersing things.
But hopefully that wouldn't happen. To some people, that 'piece of paper' doesn't truly mean anything - they might as well not have even bothered getting married. To others though, it becomes a sacred symbol of trust, of promises, of longevity and a reminder that they made a sacred oath and what they do, they will face responsibility for.

I believe that people get married because they find their soul mate. Some people like me have to go through a marriage that is not happy to make them the person that they are today. I have since found someone that I could not picture a day the rest of my life without him in it. That is why I am choosing to get remarried.

Being social animals we have constructed rites and rituals which demonstrate vows of honor, bonds of brotherhood, marriage and such. These are simply a dialogue between two which concretizes the belief in one another. I believe many take a really great friendship as a sign of this should be my wife or husband. And though it does take a really great friendship... it takes more to vow an oath.

They say marriage is an institution...and some people just like to be institutionalized! LOL!! Seriously, there is a comfort in finding the right person to settle down with.

Commit to each other their love for one another by bonding in marriage. What is sad when one or the other do not take it serious.
