You didn't. He tweaked the system to get "elected" the first time, and somehow managed to get re-elected.

He's only staying a couple more years though, max. Better luck next time, people - vote wisely. Sigh.

I am impressed. Many seem to forget that this is a democratic republic and that we go by majority (with an electoral college thrown in). They seem to want to change the rules after the votes are in and they lose. They tried the same thing the election that President Clinton didn't win by majority vote (happens quite frequently, actuall).

WE appointed President Bush. WE appointed President Clinton. We did so because he represented the majority of the U.S. citizen's values at the time of election, regardless of later choices or events.

Perhaps we would have voted differently given time. That's why terms are for four years. Our founders were wise.

Thank you for being a U.S. citizen first, and a political party, second.

We didn't "appoint". Bush won fair and square. I voted for the first time, and I'm very proud. At the time, I was voting more against John Kerry than anything else...anyone who supports partial birth abortions should be shot...and everyone who is anti-Bush should remember that we have a system of checks and balances. If they think Bush is the worst thing to happen to this country, think about how much power he actually has. Everything he does has to be approved by the other branches of govt. Yet Bush seems to be the scapegoat. Everyone hates the Pres. but it's not his fault. He couldn't really change things if he tried.

Anyone who thinks the Electoral College is a joke frankly doesn't understand its importance. Voters and electors go hand-in-hand in electing a President. Presidents are elected, not appointed.

Why did we "appoint" Bush? Because enough of America supports him for him to stay in office. America generally regulates through periods of being conservative and being liberal. Much of the past century shows this. There are long eras of conservative control (save for the FDR monarchy) that lead to short Democrat stints. That is then followed by Republicans who work on fixing the problem the Democrats made in such a short time.

Have you forgoteen what happen on Sept 11th? Bush took action, and back then every was for it. But now four years later, many are losing faith in the war and have seem to have forgotten what happened those four years ago. No one likes war and it probably has taken longer then most would have wanted.

We've been having this problem for years, going all the way back to when his father was President and back then, we didn;t finish the job. But now we have a chance to finish the job, or otherwise we could end up having this problem again. This is why we voted Bush back into office, was so once and for all the job could be finished. It is what all those that had died that day would have wanted.

We didn't, the supreme court appointed him in 2000 and Diebold delivered the next election to him in 2004 by sending out electronic voting machines with thousands of votes for Bush already programmed in. Expect more of the same this November, Republicans can't win a fair election so they'll be up to their dirty tricks.

He was elected because the competition was so poor. I'm a lifelong conservative, who thinks Bush is a fair president. But he had no competition.
