Alright, I'll tackle this one: Darkness.

We must assume that we are either in the Earth's atmosphere or we are in some arbitrarily large container of air--presumably larger than the earth, right?

If we are in the Earth's atmosphere there is no reason in the world we couldn't see the Earth and the Sun. You say it's clear, so that precludes any clouds that might otherwise obstruct the sun, so we must assume that the sun or equivelent light source isn't present. So we see darkness.

If we are in some arbitrarily large container, say one larger than the earth, then it may be possible that the walls of the container are so far away (thousands of miles in diameter: it is possible to see nearly a thousand miles from some mountain tops to some mountain tops) then it may be that the distortion from the atmosphere itself would block site of the walls. In this case we may not be able to see the sun or nearby stars because the atmosphere would diffuse the light beyond any recognition (remember that when we look up, we only see through about 40 or 50 miles of effective atmosphere). But in this case you would have huge and unavoidable windstorms, as half of this giant sphere gets very hot and the far half would get very cold. You'd have heavy condensation and, therefore, clouds. But since it's clear, we must assume this environment isn't possible unless there is no sun. So again I'll say you only see darkness.
