I mean, like, 9 to 5 jobs in comparison to like, having to work 12 hours a day one day, 4 hours another day, 8 hours another day. So essentially I'm asking would most people rather have a steady job with consistent hours, or one that varies?

It would probably be tough because you'd miss a lot during the day, but I would remind myself of the paycheck I'd be bringing home. Even though it's probably easier having a schedule that varies, at the same time it's probably difficult because you'd never know what your hours are for the upcoming weeks. What if you wanted to plan a vacation a few months from then? If you don't know the hours you'll have, it screws everything up. At least if you have a steady job you'll know the hours you work and can plan around them.

Ultimately, I think if you have a job you enjoy the hours don't matter. I'm sure I wouldn't like to work such a long day, but if it's bringing home a good paycheck and I enjoy what I do for the most part, I wouldn't mind it.

I like consistency. It's too difficult to meet all the needs of my daughter on a varied schedule. I kind of wish I could work 4 ten hour days instead of 5 eight hour days.

I would rather work a 9 to 5 job than a job where my hours change. I would like to have a job period!

I prefer flexible hours if I get to set them. This way I can take care of work as well as my family.

I think our society needs to revisit our priorities and what is good for all of us. If we put all the emphasis on just work and create a rigid structure, the family suffers and consequently the society.

I am not saying that we should neglect work, of course not. What I am saying is that by having a balance, we all can be more productive in what we do and hence it will be a win-win situation.

I've done both (hotel front desk agent working all kinds of hours, and hotel sales manager working 8am-5pm M-F only), and I like the M-F 8am-5pm much better. Gives me more time to spend with family, and a regular schedule is much easier to deal with than one that changes all the time.

9 to 5 jobs are nice because you do have the weekends off and typically you have paid holidays, paid vacations, etc., BUT it can also be quite an inconvenience when you have to run an errand (doctor, bank, car repairs, etc.) at a place that has 9 to 5 hours......so in essense, all jobs have their perks I suppose......but as for me, 9 to 5 works just fine :)

I like the paycheck more than the hours (8-4:30) - pay me enough, I'll work whenever!
