I like all the answer that have been given I think there good ideas, my question is about security. When you buy most routers nowadays it is pre-configured to work but it's usually got an easy password for administoring the router. To be on the safe side your should at least change the password to something no one else knows. The router and cables seems the best way to go.

easy, buy yourself a modem, I have seen a couple at Walmart, price range 35 to 50 bucks. Also u may try Home Depot, under the network wiring cable (cat 5, 9c etc) price $35.
Turn off ur computers connect all cables (powercord, wireless card if available, CAT 5 (Lan), turn on both of your computer and go to control panel look for network connections, follow wizard

The other answers here are fine, but i did it this way... just put a wireless network card in each PC, set up one to the broadband, tell the network to allow others to share your connection and that's it, just so long as they are talking to each other... simple.

Go to Walmart and pick up a Cheap router. The instructions on how to hook it up are on the back of the box. You can use either a wired or wireless which ever you prefer

A router is the best way. If you run wires, you will find that the WIRED routers are getting inexpensive.
Wired routers are easy to set up, and are more reliable.
Good luck
