The biggest issue is the battery, not the device itself. Batteries only last for an average of 500 charges. If you charge is twice a week, that's 250 weeks. 52 weeks a year, so just under 5 years.

well the battery mostly lasts for a year depending on how much you use it but usually for a year the ipod it self lasts as long as you don't physically brake it.if it malfunctions you could get it repaired or through troubleshooting

mine lasted for 12 years, i got mine when i was 10, it died today, and i got a new one, a Nano! :)
