The best position for a baby to sleep soundly is on her/his stomach. However, *good* sleep is sleep that a baby wakes up from! If you want to see a living baby in the morning, put her/him to sleep on her/his back.
A baby sleeping on her/his stomach as twice the risk of SIDS as a baby sleeping on her/his back. It is *because* babies sleep more deeply and longer than SIDS is more common. Babies aren't made to sleep "soundly".

To sleep soundly? That would be on their tummy. When on back they startle more frequently which increases the number of times they wake a night. With the concern about SIDS it's recommended you put your baby to sleep on their back. Since the implementation of this the number of SIDS cases has dropped significantly. My son would NOT sleep on his back so we spent many sleepless hours watching over him while he slept to make sure he didn't...... die. How scary a thought. When he was able to turn his head the concern lifted slightly. Now that he is so much more mobile with much more control of his movement I worry less. I work with a nurse that I confided in and told her I felt like a bad mother. Her reply was, "I raised 3 healthy babies and they all slept on their stomachs so don't feel bad." It really is unknown what EXACTLY causes SIDS. Could be re breathing air, suffocation from toys or blankets, could be a congenital defect. If there is a family history of SIDS then your risk goes up. Good luck.

To decrease the risk of SIDS, the safest position for a baby under 12 months of age is on her back. But most babies prefer to sleep in their parents' arms lol.

On their side with a blanket rolled up behind them and a short one(from the belly down to the toes) rolled up in front. I also roll one up and put it around their heads, or use one of those headsuporrt things for car seats. All three of mine were put to bed this way(until the older two started to move at night), my 1 yr old still sleeps like this. I think it gives them a sense of security.

When my newborn was in the nicu they had what they called "nests" in each crib. It was essentially a pillow in the shape of a U (but not a Boppy! Those are too thick!) that held the babies securely so they felt like they were being held. My baby was so comfy in it that my husband bought him one before he came home from the hospital. Unfortunately, they grow out of them pretty fast!

Putting the baby to sleep on back is the best and safest position. u cud use a sleep positioner to ensure this. But my baby loved to sleep on her stomach..when we used to carry her she used to have a very sound sleep.

Always on thier backs until they are able to flip themselves over.
Never ever use supports at the sides because if they turn their heads, the support could fall and end up suffocating the baby.
