Some of the questions I ask I already know a little about what I'm talking about and yet people give you these answers like I'm stupid. Like my other question What foods help raise your good cholesterol levels? I'm wanting to raise my HDL levels and Lower my LDL levels and I get these answers to eat more fatting foods to raise my entire cholesterol some of these people don't know that there is a "Good" and a "Bad" cholesterol. You want your good to be high and your bad to be low.

Unfortunately, some people are just jerks. They try to be mean to others to feel better about themselves. Sometimes, though, people ask questions that are just asking for a smart-mouth response like "What is 2+2?" or "Where is the question mark key?", but your cholesterol question is not one of those.

It's the same for those who answer a question when you are asking someone else: it makes them feel superior. The smugness is part of that personality; these folks want to think they are higher on the food chain and, therefore, give their uninvited opinion (or correct your pronunciation or spelling in a rude way) to "show" they are better than you. These people are highly likely to be very insecure about their lives, their standing in the food chain, their very humanity. The arrogance just proves it. Look for: drivers of huge SUV's that never leave the city; hunters; loud people (on the bus, at the bar, on the trail, anywhere); noses in the air; eye-rolling; gossips; bad dressers who think they look good; rude drivers who HAVE to be in front of you; writers and conversations filled with unnecessarily "big" words; a basket with more than 20 items in the express lane; and finger-pointing (often pointing upwards). If you tell these people something, the first thought in their head may be, "How does that affect me? or Why should I care?" Let's face it: they are everywhere. Rudeness. pompousness is from fear and incivility and putting yourself ahead of all others Egad! That's our society!

get a hold of the glycemic index it will give you a lot of information on food. Peanut butter is one way to lower blood sugar, so it must have some effect on HDL. Dark green, yellow, or orange vegetables are excellent, also blueberries, and berry concentrates you can buy in the produce dept of your grocery store. Dr. Perricone in his book says the brighter the natural colors of the foods the better, oh, and eat fresh, stay away from processed foods, eats lots of fiber.

As to your first question, when you ask a very complicated question, one with a multitude of answers, one can only assume you need to start from scratch and they try to explain the nuances of such a question as though the questioner is in total darkness..

If I answer a question like the one you asked about cholesterol, I try to keep in mind that the asker will not be the only one who will read the answer....so I make it more complete than I otherwise might. However, I do try to word things in a way that will not make the asker feel stupid.

As the asker of the question you have to be patient and tolerant enough to listen to every part of the answer even though you might know 80% of your own answer already. The person who is answering has no idea as to what you know and do not know so its much more effective for them to give you a full and complete answer rather than taking the time to find out what you know and where you might be lacking.

Hi Victoria, sometimes it can be difficult to tell when people are sincere or not.
One reason why they might seem like know it alls is because they don't know you.
I think with some people, they might wish to make what they're saying clear.
Usually the people out having fun/being stupid show themselves. Just try not to take answers on here personally :).

It helps a lot if you're very specific w/ your questions. Not everyone is a genius, honey, but the less intelligent a person is the more likely they don't realize it. They're not bright enough. Make sense? It's not fair to blame them I would assume these questions are open forum so you can get several points of view. It's up to you to sift through them.

Because you are stupid and I do know everything.
lol j/k
They just want to sound smart and get the 2 points for answering a question. A lot of them don't even realize they are making themselves look stupid in the process.

People just like to think they're the smartest people there and want their answer to be the best answer. They just don't stop to think about how much the person might know about the question already: they judge you, but they don't even know you.

i think it is because they dont read the question all the way through. and then you get those people who think they know everything about everything, but actually dont know squat about anything.
