The believe by most doctors, is that axillary and pubic hair don't really have a function at all. I am not a doctor, but, my personal believe is that axillary hair marks the starting point for your parents to see and start realizing that you are becoming young adults. This is the puberty years, in which your parents should be concerned, because young boys and girls can become parents.
If you are a boy and have an older sister, I think you know what I'm talking about. You get treated differently by your parents.

They are there for protection for infections and germs! The hair acts as a sort of barrier to keep germs out of the pubic area and axillary areas, which will prevent infections.
