Unfortunately I know what you are talking about. And there is just not enough room to begin to explain.
I used to go to the movies with friends and once I saw a brother up on screen...I would say out loud.."Uh oh! Its a black guy...he's going to die." The audience would always break out into laughter...always...and I think it was the nature of the laughter that held more truth about the disproportionate number of blacks as cannon fodder in films...than most responses you will get here at Yahoo answers.
It is not every film...and it is not 75% of them either...and it is not just horror movies and its not just the stereotype of us dying in films...it is a series of stereotypes that seem to be kept alive at all costs...that are regurgitated over and over again...like the cow throwing up the cud...then chewing it then swallowing all over again.
I know the cow gains substance from the process of chewing its cud. I would hate to speculate as to who is being fed in response to these constantly rescucitated sterotypes...and what manner of sustenance they derive from this. It damn sure ain't us.
I believe the law of supply and demand comes into play here. No demand...no supply.
And there is no need to apologize for the question. None at all.
May the gods stand between you and harm...in all the empty places where you must walk. Peace.

Its not in every movie, but most of the time the black guy dies first because he's usually the comic relief and "the plot thinkens" after a dramatic turn of events. White Hollywood loves to portray blacks as being comical, angry or just plain ignorant. Realistically, we're all the same, heck I know some white guys that's been through more trials of life than I have. We're all the same...just different shades.

Because, we live in a racist society that the producers value the same race actor more than the others. If there was a black producer, I am sure that he would choose to make the white guy die first.

This is my opinon of course. I believe that the horror genre have to create the most believable bad guy. To do that, the first person who dies has to be someone who doesn't deserve it and will make the bad guy even more of a bad guy.
By killing the black guy off first you not only kill of the guy who usually wants nothing to do with the situation but the bad guy also appears racist.

I think honestly if horror movies were real a black person would know how to survive. At least me and all the ones i know would. we dont learn how to take care of our selves for nothing. the real question should be why does the person running always trip? and why do people always run for the forrest?
p.s why are we called african american? im not from africa and neither are any of my family members. and if your basing this on theory were all from africa. im just black!

I've noticed that in some of the movies myself.i guess that it's because they're not usually the star, or key character so they get rid of them like any other non-key character.
I've also noticed that most times, when black men are used to in advertisements, they are either in the background or on drugs,(my brother pointed that out, & no we're not black), what's up with that?

hmm..not sure. in america i think there are more bigger white actors and celbs.
even in music. you think these rappers and stuff have high record sales but cant compare to a britney spears...
so like in most movies..the biggest stars will be the last persons to die.
i think its more about lead actors than the color. there are more white lead actors.
just think..when is the last time u saw Denzel or Samuel Jackson die? Well he did die in Deep Blue Sea..but i was shocked.

LOL.
This was especially true about 10-15 years ago.
I think LL Cool J's character didn't die first in H2O ?
Oh yeah...and Blacula!
Oh yeah one more...remember John Carpenter's "The Thing"...Keith David's character was one of the last one's left at the end.
