Because most people ask questions about themselves, and they expect you to. People also like to feel like they are giving advice to you, telling you how to run your life, etc. Just apply the answers to the questions you asked, without applying them to yourself, even though the answers were presented that way.

I think you mean hypothetical question because if you're asking rhetorical questions, it means you don't want an answer. (I'm not trying to be rude.)
People always jump to conclusion and make assumptions about people who ask questions, especially on a program like this. It's just human nature and it probably makes some people feel better to see that other people have similar or worse problems than themselves.
I wouldn't worry about it too much....it's just people being people and I doubt there is anything you can do about it.
I am happy to hear that you pose questions that pop into your head or that you wonder about. It shows an active and inquisitive mind, which I don't see very often. So, keep asking questions and if I come across them, I'll do my best to answer them.

I just read your question and some of your answers.
You and others on here need to look up the definition of "rhetorical question".
It has nothing to do with referring to another's problem.
A rhetorical question is one that OBVIOUSLY requires no answer.
Here is an example. Let's say, I spilled some ice tea down the front of my white dress.
I would ask. sarcasticly but in a humorous way...."Don't you just love it, when that happens?"
The other person just laughs. No answer is required. You don't NEED them to answer that. It is a rhetorical question.
About people assuming it is YOUR problem you are asking about,
They just naturally are going to assume that it is about YOU.
If you HAVE written in the fact, that this is someone ELSES problem and they missed that part in your question, that is THEIR fault for not reading your question thoroughly.
If you HAVEN'T been including that information in your questions, try adding that.
You will get different answers. They might not be BETTER answers but you'll get better responces.
Good Luck!
And EVERYBODY?... Please look up the definition of rhetorical question. You wouldn't want to be embarrassed in the future. Especially, if you were trying to impress someone.

Sure it isn't you, its OK to admit it nothing to be shy about, just keep firing away> just joking with you , truthfully I think we just like to feel we are of personal help and that's really all . Though I often see some mean answers to all types of questions and those are not helpful nor do they want to be unfortunately. I like to spice things up with a little humor sometimes, I guess I'm funny that way.

most people who have a question have a problem with some sort of situation or something else. that is what most people see when they answer a question but they don't realize that not everyone has a problem just a question that bugs you

definite, checklist - even yet it rather is a "well mannered assumption" oftentimes as no longer. You, even however, are enjoying the modesty card right here, I fancy; why, your beard and coiffure on my own are a source of fascination. to no longer point out your previous/selection avatar image in which you look bare - modesty shielded purely by potential of what seems to be a backyard fish fry set, if i'm no longer flawed...? I do wish we've no longer seen the final of that comely snap, btw. yet decrease back to the Q! - you're good, of direction, Dr H. Mutual contacts aside, no longer each P&S contributor's efforts come as much as an acceptably relaxing mark. even however, it is not this lots that bothers me approximately them. What rather gets my goat approximately those stuffy persons - habitually submitting 'genuine' inquiries to a type that has of course been set aside for purely stupid applications - is their churlish refusal to lighten the load their artwork provides by potential of lacing it with smutty sexual references and double entendres. in the event that they do no longer seem to be arranged to even attempt entering into the spirit of issues, I reckon those pesky inverse trolls ought to naff off. superb Q. nicely carried out!

Simply because when someone has an unusual situation or an embarassing problem they often speak of themselves in the 3rd person in hopes that nobody will know that its them. Thus because this defense mechanism is used so regularly that this is indeed the assumption.

Because you're the one bringing it up. Start your question off with - "This question is rhetorical" so they leave you alone.
