I am currently a temp job and I've been here since March, I make 10.00 an hr. they haven't even talked about making me permanent at all...A lot of the temps in the company have been temps for over 6mos. I just got a job offer today making 14.75hr. doing the same work I do now, but its a contract position that lasts up to at least 3mos. It's contract to hire.. What should I do?

Only you have enough information to tell you what option will serve you best.

In many situations contract job and temp job are used interchangeably.

You need to ask yourself a couple of questions:
How long is your current job likely to last?
How long is the new job likely to last?
Do you like working where you are?
Do you know enough about the new company to know if you will be happy there?
Which job will help you further your overall career goals?

Nothing pathetic at all. People are glad to get those Census jobs even if they are temporary. There has been 6 straight months of job increases. I guess you missed that, before you started labeling people as idiots. If you don't know that these "geniuses in power", know the truth on jobs, you are the the one needing help. The only Bozo I see is the one that does not check facts before posting a question. About 10% of America's job force is unemployed. It will be years before there's a turn around in unemployment. Maybe even longer considering the effects of the Baby Boomer generation. There is some good news. Those already employed may be working longer and earning more. There is trend to get employees to work longer before hiring new employees. Many in the business world are leary of any quick economic improvements.

I used to work at on of the top temp agencies in Dallas, here's what you do. Take the Contract to hire. Its more money for now, if you like it and they like you, you have a perm job, if not, you can always get another $10 an hour temp job, they are a dime a dozen. I promise you! If its only three months, and three months only, you will still make more money for now and you can always get another $10 job. Contract usually means it only lasts for as long as they need you, temp is temp, and temp to hire is when they might hire you if they like you. call your temp service and make sure you understand what kind of job it is. just remember, there is another $10 job waiting around the corner, ALWAYS!!!!!! I was the administrative coordinator at probably the largest temp agency in the world. Trust me!
