my father's mother is 1/2 cherokee and 1/ african american, my father's father is 1/2 white and 1/2 african american. just out of curiosity

Well, let's see. You can't be African-American, because you were born here; you're 1/8 Cherokee...which, I think, allows you to claim Cherokee heritage for legal purposes, but do check me on that; and the rest of you is Caucasian, is that right? What a complex geneology! I think you're best off just claiming to be American...as so many of us do!
