The only time in my life where I felt certain that the Engand was going to win a major international sporting tournament was in the 2003 Rugby World Cup. Why do the English seem to have an attitude that says "I will try to save the game" rather than "I will win the game"?

Because from being world class the 60's and 70's, we're now just world class without the 'world cl'.

Aside from sports, England has been an underdog most of the way through history. We're bound to slightly pessimistic.

However regardless of the pessimistic attitude, “England expects every man to do his duty”.

Ever since our World Cup win in 1966 the press has been expactant at every major tournement and find it hard to accept the fact that we are not as good as Brazil or Argentina.

During the 2002 world cup q/f defeat to brazil, we went in at half time needing motivation from captain and manager. We didn't get it and lost the game 2-1.

Whenever things go wrong the press always blame the manager (they did this with Bobby Robson and he was the most succesful since Sir Alf Ramsey) they just need someone to blame for not reaching THEIR expectations.

We won the rugby world cup in 2003 and we did belive we could. The same with the ashes last year, we were the best and the whole country knew it at the time.

Sven doesn't have the passion we need to be succesful at the world cup.

"England expects"- but i dont think we should expect too much.

Unfortunately that's the way the English are, and you can't change them.

They are very good though, especially in football. They might not have shown yet, but watch them - they will come around. It's a pity they have to be stopped by Ghana in the semis.
