I agree with janine_rs - your teacher is an idiot.
You cannot dance your best unless you look and feel your best. If you are constantly worried about sagging or showing through your costume, you will be unhappy.
Wear a bra. If you are worried about the back strap showing, there are some extendors that you can attach to the ends of the bra, that allow the bra to cross at the lower back and then hook together at your waist. Most department stores sell these.
For the future, there are nude coloured leotards made just for this situation. They have built-in shelf bras, and are discrete beneath any costume. Dance distributors carries them. So I would say, wear the bra this time, and try to get the comfortable and discrete underclothes for next time. I've got the link below.

Your question hits a sore spot in our house, as my daughter had this issue as well - before surgery took her from a DD to a B.
I'm sorry, but your teacher is an idiot for suggesting ace bandages. Nothing gives the needed support when a "lotttt" of support is needed except a bra WITH STRAPS. Your teacher is behind the times in not allowing bra straps. Not only do all the college dance programs I've seen allow skin-colored or clear bra straps to "show," but there are a growing number of modern and contemporary ballet companies that include fuller-figured dancers who perform with straps "showing."
And I'm putting "showing" in quotes because the audience has to look HARD to see them, and my daughter and I made a point of doing so. Given reduced lights, lots of movement on stage, and skin-colored straps, the effect of straps is insignificant compared to the distraction caused by a bouncing chest. One girl at my daughter's college program had to wear three bras under her costume to make sure she was fully secure, including a sports bra.
I really wish you could change your teacher's mind. My daughter's old studio teacher also wouldn't budge, but after a couple of times of trying to follow her advice by sewing a strapless bra into the costume, my daughter finally thought "screw it," and wore a tan bra under her costumes. They were just recitals, after all, not professional performances!

I just had a similar dilemma in my recital. I bought a flesh tone strapless bra.....one size smaller than my actual size so that it would fit snugly. It worked wonderfully!

Try one of those tube bras, there's no wire and they are stretchy and comfortable, i'm sure any dance store or even department store will have them. Hopefully the back of your costume is high enough to cover it. good luck!!!

i'd suggest a nude-colored cami leotard, or a nude-colored strapless. =] good luck with that. i had my recital a few days ago, but just wrapping a bandage worked well enough.
