I've always wondered that. He does criticize Bush from time to time, but the only thing I've ever heard him say that sounded less than conservative was that the oil companies shouldn't get tax breaks and should be investigated for collusion.

I wish he would just say "I'm a conservative" instead of pretending.

Bill O'Reilly may like to call himself an Independent, but he's not, and on top of that most Independents tend to hold views that were once referred to as 'conservative', but conservatism has since been dragged down the dusty trail, one boot still stuck in the stirrup on the saddle of Big Money....

He is just as independent as Dan Rather, both of them pretend that they're not just passing off their insufficiently researched opinions as facts like with Bush's service record or how Detroit was burned to the ground during that power outage a couple years back.

by saying hes a independent he is not a republican or a democrat. An independent can be liberal or conservative or a moderate, but independent is not affiliated with a particular party

Independent refers to politicals parties, not political viewpoint which is entirely different. Republican and democratic refer to the political parties. Conservative and liberal refer to political viewpoints. There are conservative democrats and liberal republicans.
