I'm thinking about buying either one or a pair of sugar gliders. I know a little from research on the net but really wanted owner feedback. What do you think are the most important things I should know about owning these adorable animals before I buy one or a pair?

Sugar gliders are social creatures so it would be best if you'd buy 2. The most important thing about having gliders is their diet. If they're on a bad diet it could change the color of their coat and there's a chance they could get HLP (hind leg paralysis). Here are a few proven diets...

I use The Pet Glider Diet for my gliders. Keep in mind that these little guys are not rodents and their teeth do not continuosly grow. So never ever get their teeth clipped or filed down. If you do, the glider would be in extreme pain and they'd never grow back.

Also, gliders are nocturnal so are you willing to devote about 2 hours of your time playing with them at around 11 pm or midnight? They need about 2 hours of playtime every night. They can live up to 15 yrs if cared for properly.

Sugar gliders are amazing creatures. They can form a strong bond with the main care taker.

Hope this helps some.

buy a pair (male and female) They need company to be happy. Make sure you put their cage in an area that will not disturb you at night when you sleep, since they are very active at night. you have to buy live mill worms also...so, if that creeps you out, you may want to reconsider.

I know a wonderful person who breeds sugar gliders, so you can try to contact him, and he will tell you what you need to know. Email him at dorisronald@aol.com.

go to sugarglider.net for one on one answers from experienced owners.

They require large amounts of time (several hours daily) and can live for up to 15 years. You should plan to keep them for their whole lives, because moving them around can stress them.
