Sometimes the best guys are shy too. It really depends on how you do the asking as to whether it might seem inappropriate. It also depends on your culture as to what it means. For example, in some cultures, whoever asks someone out has to pay. This could work out in your favor, however, especially if the culture is one that practices delayed reciprocity since he will then feel obliged to ask you out and pay in return - which means you get two dates instead of one! (This could be bad though if the guy ends up being a loser.)
In some macho cultures, only the guy is supposed to ask the woman out. These are usually the cultures where prostitution thrives and guys screw around more, so it's probably not the culture you want. Luckily, cultures can change, so you could even lead a change by asking a boy out. (There are some morons that will argue that cultures can't change, apparently oblivious to the fact that, for example, my country no longer practices slavery.)
Last, but not least, screw what other people think! If you think this is the right guy, which is worse? Looking foolish for a day or a month or NEVER going out with him?

Yes it is ok to ask a guy out, shygurl. The first date I ever had was when a lovely young lady asked me to go to a dance with her. I probably responded by saying something stupid, but I somehow stammered out a "yes." We dated for 3 years before parting ways, but I still remember her fondly.

YES!!!! there is nothing wrong with having the guts and self esteem!!!! Allot of guys love a girl who is independent. I have asked many guys out or even just walked up to them gave them my business card and said, I don't know your situation but if you ever wanna talk or have coffee give me a call.!! Go for it! Why wait?

I think that is generally accepted since the 1980's.
Just make sure you make very clear arrangements before hand - that is at the same time you ask the guy who will pay the bill.

Yes. But be prepared if he says no and be prepared if some people who are supposed friends have a problem with it. This is 2006, the 21st century and as women, if we want something, we need to get it ourselves!
