Are Americans (US) lazy?

2006-06-23 06:23:14 · 10 answers · asked by Anonymous in Education & Reference Primary & Secondary Education

OK this might be a generalization, but to call it racist is to avoid the issue altogether. Maybe this sort of oversensitive, PC psychobabble has something to do with it.

Asian and Eastern cultures have a greater respect for education and a greater respect for authority figures (teachers). Parents expect their children to do their very best, and are an essential factor in making sure that they have the best equipment, supplies, and help at home - and it doesn't matter what their economic condition is.

No Americans are not lazier, but the Asian people have a different way of thinking. The Japanese people don't ALWAYS do the best. It's just the people around you.

But if you see which countries do the best in science, and math, they are mostly Asian countries. This is because These countries are more strict than the US

They aren't always the brightest. They usually are just the most motivated to do well. Their parents teach them the importance of preparing for the future and some take it to heart. They understand the concepts of Honor and integrity and can apply them. Some very sharp American kids are lazy, spoiled, brats who have everything handed to them and can see no reason to do anything outside of what captures their interest for the moment. I know several of these.

if you ever go to korea or japan and see these kids work, their persistance is incredible. they go to school, go to after school tutoring and go to english school. school for them is all day. here it's 4-5 hours, maybe. they also get the sh*it beaten out of them if they perform poorly. They are instilled with a sense of educational superiority where that education, learned well, can get you everything you've ever wanted. here, it's more a mix of culture, money, popularity, being cool that detract from the educational experience. I've not know many people excited about school or wishing it lasted all day here. and if we got beaten for coming home with a C- in algebra, child services would be there the following hour ready to take us away.

Asians have tons of pressure from their parents, because they've come from countries where the schools are heavy on education. They even use whips in Asian countries when you do something wrong, like forget to bring your homework.

Also, most Asians know not to take education for granted, because we know what poverty is.
