Some certainly do. Some viruses are intended to "take over" your machine and use it to do things like Denial of Service Attacks: basically every infected machine starts sending bogus queries to a targeted machine at the same time. Other viruses open up your computer for the virus writer or those who know how the virus works to snoop around on your computer. Others just try to spread themselves using your internet connection.

Any of the above will use some of your bandwidth. Most of them not a lot. If you're experiencing slow connections, the culprit is most likely something else. There are traffic monitoring applications that can tell you how much data is going in and out over your connection. If data is being sent or recieved when you're not doing anything, then start to pay more attention.

Good luck.

The viruses that affect your computer need not in such affect Your Speed of your Internet connection ,However if the virus does some activity that may gobble up lot of Your CPU time then Your Computer speed appears to be slow so if You are browsing thru firefox Or any Browser It would be slowed Down too And hence One feels that Your Internet Connection Is slow ,But IN principle It should Not affect Your Internet speed,However There is a virus Which makes use of Your Internet Connection to spread Itself then Your Internet Connection will Eventually Slow down

Well in general it won't... because Virus affects computers speed or normally it slows down PC.

BUT Some trojans are responsible for slowing internet speed and one trojan can make you disconnect from internet if you're using 56 kbps speed modem..... so you can guess the tasks of virus... they can do anything can't be specific one fine anti-virus and trusted firewall security is needed for internet users

It depends on what the virus is set to do. Spyware, worms, trojans, malware and viruses all have the ability and many times do steal bandwith and cpu time.
