Because there's so many people using this and the possibilities are endless on questions and answers. Also, they have a point system to reward you for participating. More importantly, it's unpredictable which makes it exciting.
I think they'd be more successful if they'd stop monitoring everything... it takes away from the fun.

knowledge and entertainment. you're curious and seek answers to questions. not being able to figure it out yourself, you want to hear what others say about it. whether it's the right answer or along the lines of what you thought was the right answer. it's fun bcuz you get to "talk" to people and hear their insights without ever leaving your desk. friends are made here enemies are made here. kind of lazy mindset when you think about it but regardless, it's entertainment. Beneficial entertainment, like watching sesame street or something

You are hooked. Answering questions can be habit forming. It is a good concept. I wish I thought of it. I truly enjoy it too.

because it gives people a chance to be heard, in an otherwise uncaring world. now whether or not they should be heard is another story

because there are alot ppl with free time and here they can agree disagree or whatever on eney thing and hey dont forget answering easy questions and some times just saying..........................................
