Teach yourself a programming language. It's an interesting intellectual challenge and it can even be fun. I have taught myself PHP, XHTML, CSS, Python, and more.
A really fascinating language is the Persistence of Vision Raytracer's (POV-Ray) Scene Description Language. It's a language for creating photorealistic 3D (static or animated) scenes. Basically, anything you can describe, it will show it to you! Very cool.
All of the languages I have mentioned here are available on the Internet for free, and they run on any computer.

Crossword puzzles or other brainteasers are great activities when you're bored. They keep you sharp and are shown to be related to increased memory/alertness. And they're fun! As a teacher, I always keep some on hand for when students finish a test early or for rainy recess times!
