I'm 15 and I've always been in jazz and hiphop.. which is more like jazz... ballet or lyrical? I'm really flexible so I think I'd do good in lyrical.. but ballet dances are so pretty! I'd like some opinions!

What style is more fun? Probably lyrical, because it's easier and doesn't really require much technique. The average audience also tends to find lyrical music more appealing, as it's what they know: pop music with lyrics.

Which is more like jazz? Well, lyrical, of course. Both styles are based on ballet but break the classical ballet lines. Lyrical just tends towards the more angsty music while jazz prefers a beat, but there really isn't much difference.

The point is, you really don't need to "study" lyrcial. If you know ballet and jazz, you can do lyrical. As has been said, ballet is the foundation for most anything else and will make you a better dancer in everything. It's harder work, as it's more precise. But it's valuable to both know the rules (ballet) and how to break them (jazz). Out of that comes everything else.

My studio won't let you be in Lyrical unless you're in Ballet. I'd suggest both. I couldn't do either one without the other frankly!
Lyrical is the most like Jazz but my teacher insists that Ballet is the foundation for all dance and if you wanna dance any style, you should take Ballet for at least three years.
After a year of Ballet, I'd have to say I agree with her!

Lyrical is just an offshoot of ballet. Everything is an offshoot of ballet. If you want to develop and grow as a dancer, ballet is the way to go. However lyrical would probably be easier for you, as a jazz dancer. It depends on how much you want to challenge yourself. A ballet class is going to be a far cry from a jazz or hip hop class, and you may not like it. It's very structured. But I cannot stress enough how essential it is to make you a good dancer.

Ballet is the foundation for most dance styles. Lyrical is a cousin so if you do one, you'll be really great at the other.

I say go for it, it's never too late to start dancing. I started ballet when I was 18. It's tons of fun!

ballet is beautiful and if youre really flexible with other dance experience, you would probably be very good at it even if youve never done it before
