It is best to get the visas in order beforehand. They can make it somewhat difficult for those who come here on the I-94 wavier and then try to change status.
There is a fiance visa for those who intend to marry after getting to the USA, by the way.
Best thing to do is contact the local US consulate (in UK for you it seems) They are usually pretty helpful about the process. Also, depending on the country, the local consulates typically handle fewer immigration cases than the main immigration department here in the USA, so it can be quicker anyway.
My brother married a woman from Brazil without too much hassle, although she also had a company sponsoring her for a work visa too, so that may have helped.
I am married to a Japanese man, but we married in Japan and lived there 10 years before moving back to USA, so that was a different kind of visa. But, it was pretty smooth. Took about 4 months to do everything. Maybe could have been faster, but we had trouble scheduling the health checks, etc. because of our work.

Do you know how many internet marriages have happened between people from other countries that didn't work out? MANY, and the immigration centers are on the look out for them. They are looking out for your best interest as well as his and safety for both of you.

I believe you'd be smart to either visit him or have him visit you for a couple of weeks for starters. Yes, I understand that this is a long distance situation and you don't have much money. However, it could cost you a lot more in divorce fees and moving expenses if you're not careful. This person may even take your life. You don't really know him or her.

There are some people who marry just to get green cards and that's a whole other matter!!

People on the internet can be whoever they want to be, but once you meet them, you can sometimes get some kind of a sense about them. I just had friend who married a Russian Bride. A few weeks after they were married she claimed he beat her, when in fact, it was the other way around. She's getting his house and most of his money. Turns out she's a con!! He dated her for 2 years long distance before he married her. He was completely in love with her and is now devastated, he thought he knew her, but now realizes he allowed other things to cloud his thinking. He never in a million years dreamed she would do this to him.

Unfortunately, there are many stories just like this one. Take it slow and visit as much as you can before you make a final decision. Get to know each other's friends, this helps even if it is over the internet.

You can also do a background check even though he/she lives in another state or country. Please be careful and I wish you the best of luck.

you'd be more effective positive off having your fiance practice now for a K1 fiance visa which will take 6-9 months to procedure. in case you marry contained in the U. S. on a vacationer visa, go back homestead then report a CR1 better 1/2 visa, that is going to take 12-18 months to procedure, meaning you'd be separated out of your better 1/2 for no less than a three hundred and sixty 5 days when you marry With a fiance visa you do not pick to depart the rustic when you marry - you in undemanding words report an adjustment of status when you're married. that is speedier and motives fewer issues

dont you think you should wait till you've met each other first seems a tad rash when its so easy to build up a wrong image of someone you've only written to. its easier to get the full picture face to face do you even know what this person looks like

if I were you, i'd realize that I was being scammed, but i'm not... you are you, and soon your going to be broke. I've seen so many case's where people meet people from U.K., Nigeria, Africa...all they want is a free ride to America, and you, well... you fell for it. Ask this person to show thenself on a webcam, if they cant, your being played.
