So my old garage door is trashed, and I need a new one. My garage door opener will work on either panneled garage doors, or the single piece ones. I also want to install one of those automatic garage door lock devices, because I think garage doors are a major security risk.

Which type of garage door should I get? Another single piece one with hinges, or a sectioned one that rolls up on tracks? Which one can I make the most secure?

Go with the track style. They are more secure, easy to lock, and much easier to install. Also, and I believe most important, they will actually give you a lot more clearance through the door area. You lose almost 12" of clearance with those old wooden doors and they make garage doors to low as it is for the size of automobiles these days.

I have Clopay garage doors that look like they are a single piece, but are really 3 separate pieces. I prefer this design because should anything happen you can replace that panel. I kinda backed into the garage door when it was partially down and damaged one panel which is a lot less expensive to do than replacing the entire door. Mine also operates on a track system with an automatic opener and locking device. You can also wire your security alarm system to it to be notified of a breach.

We have a Lift-master and we like it fine. We replaced a cheap piece of poop called Marantec. The Marentec was really sloooowwww and couldn't be adjusted to speed up. I am not handy with garage doors openers so I had a door opener company come out. The motors are guaranteed for life so I can always call the company to come service it. It's chain drive. It works for me but if you are a DIYer I don't know what brand.....

Track style is the way to go. Wayne Dalton is a respected brand name that I've had good luck with. I believe Lowes carrys this brand.
