I want to use an older computer for dial-up internet access.
I put the modem in, but the computer does't find new the hardware. What am I doing wrong?

You probably need to install the driver for the modem that should have come with it on a CD. If it is a new modem, the install should be relatively straight-forward.

Obviously not a Plug N Play modem.

Install it manually. Just launch Add Hardware. Let it scan and then elect to install from a hardware choice - modems and have your driver files ready to install.

Go download the driver for that old modem if you don't have one.

First of all check if the modem is pluged in correctly...check the cables...also you need the device driver which comes as a Floppy Disk or CD with the modem...and you'll be all set..
