b; the equation would be Al3 Cl-1 to begin with. then, you take those numbers, and switch them, making it Al-1Cl3. but, you never put a 1 in an equation, because it is still just Al. So, the final equation would then be AlCl3.

whenever we combine two elements...their valencies r crossed.

when joining al and cl...we cross their valencies...and get tht 3 below Cl and 1 below Al....so it becomes AlCl3.
